As some of you know, these days I find myself in the beautiful city of Granada, Spain, enjoying the hot, dry summers and the cold, crisp winters. However, this wasn’t always the case. I am, in fact, a Lyme Regis girl. At least that is where I spent my teenage and university years. And I love it just as much as I love Granada. The two places are pretty different, but equally charming -each in its own particular way. Recently I was in the South West of England getting back in touch with my old haunts and I was inspired to paint them. So here is the first of many paintings of this wonderful part of the world where I spent many a happy moment – the West Country. This painting is based on the view from the top of the steps at the end of Broad Street, just by the cannon. The view is of The Cobb Gate on a blustery winter evening.
